Guatemala Tour Package Itinerary
Day 1: Guatemala City
Welcome to Guatemala! Upon arrival at La Aurora International Airport, we'll pick you up and take you to your hotel in the capital city, where you'll spend the night.
Day 2: Guatemala City
We'll start our 15-day tour with a sightseeing tour of Guatemala City to see its main monuments, such as the National Palace, the Cathedral, and the Civic Center.
Afterwards, we'll go to the archaeological complex of Iximché, where the country's first capital was established. We'll stroll among its pyramidal temples, palaces, and ball game fields. We'll end the tour by visiting the Museum of Iximché, where pieces of sculpture and ceramics found in the excavations are exhibited.
In the afternoon, we'll leave the capital behind to go to Chichicastenango and spend the night there.
Day 3: Chichicastenango
We'll start the day with a visit to the colorful open-air market of Chichicastenango, one of the best-preserved indigenous markets in the country. Then, we'll go to the church of Santo Tomás, where we'll be able to witness ancestral ceremonial rites.
After getting to know the town, we'll head to Quetzaltenango, where we'll spend the night.
Day 4: Quetzaltenango
Quetzaltenango is a city that stands out for its historical and cultural relevance and is a well-known tourist destination due to its neoclassical architecture. In this city, we'll visit the market of San Francisco El Alto and the church of San Andrés Xecul, two of its most emblematic places, and in the afternoon, we'll head to Panajachel, on the shores of Lake Atitlán.
Day 5: Lake Atitlán
After breakfast, we'll leave Panajachel to enjoy a beautiful boat ride on Lake Atitlán. During this pleasant trip, you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful views of this lake surrounded by mountains and volcanoes.
We'll take the boat to Santiago Atitlán, one of the Maya villages located on the shore of the lake, where we'll learn about the customs and traditions of their community. At the end of the visit, we'll head to the historic city of Antigua Guatemala.
Day 6: Antigua Guatemala
The sixth day will be dedicated to Antigua Guatemala. We'll walk through its colonial streets to see the cathedral of Santiago, Central Park, and the convent of the Capuchinas, located on a hill with beautiful panoramic views of the city.
In the afternoon, we'll return to Guatemala City and spend the night here.
Day 7: Quetzal Biotope
Early in the morning, we'll leave the capital and head towards Alta Verapaz, where we'll visit the Quetzal Biotope. This is an area created to protect the quetzal, a bird species in danger of extinction.
Then, we'll go to Orquigonia, a private nature reserve dedicated to the conservation of orchids. After the day's adventures, we'll travel to Cobán to spend the night.
Day 8: Semuc Champey
On this day, we'll make an excursion to Semuc Champey, a natural enclave located in the town of Lanquín. In this tropical paradise, we'll visit bridges, springs, and canyons formed by sedimentary and limestone rock. In addition, we'll marvel at its native plant and wildlife.
Day 9: Copán
We'll cross the border of Honduras and head to Copán to visit the archaeological complex. We'll explore its Maya ruins, getting lost among its stelae carved in stone, temples, pyramids, and plazas.
We'll also visit the Museum of Maya Sculpture, located inside the archaeological park, which houses an important collection of Maya artifacts. There, we'll learn about the history of Copán and the Maya culture.
Day 10: Quiriguá
We'll wake up bright and early and return to Guatemala to visit the archaeological site of Quiriguá, known for its Maya architecture and carved stone monuments. We'll be able to see its stelae, which represent human figures and hieroglyphs, and among them stands out stela E, which is more than 10 meters (33 feet) high. We'll stroll through its Central Plaza and Acropolis and see the Great Jaguar and the Maya ball game.
In the afternoon, we'll move on to Río Dulce to spend the night there.
Day 11: Livingston and Río Dulce
We'll begin the day with a boat tour on the Dulce River. We'll sail to the city of Livingston to learn more about its history and visit the castle of San Felipe.
In the afternoon, we'll go to Flores or Tikal to rest until the next day.
Day 12: Ceibal
In the morning, we'll travel to Ceibal, a Maya archaeological complex located in Sayaxché next to the La Pasión River, known as the Maya Art Gallery. We'll see its finely carved stelae, considered the best preserved from the classic period.
After the day's adventures, we'll head to the hotel in Flores or Tikal.
Day 13: Yaxhá and Topoxté
We'll visit two of Guatemala's most famous archaeological complexes, contemporaries of Tikal. First, we'll see Yaxhá, located on a hill, presenting some 1400 structures. We'll visit its primary enclosures, many of which have been restored, and we will finish with its temple, which is more than 30 meters (98.5 feet) high.
In the afternoon, we'll go to Topoxté, a post-classic city that reminds many visitors of the ruins of Tulúm in the Yucatán. After the visit, we'll return to the hotel in Flores or Tikal.
Day 14: Tikal
And we save the best for last! On our 15-day tour of Guatemala, we couldn't miss the country's crown jewel: the ruins of Tikal.
We'll explore this splendid world-famous archaeological complex, visiting its Great Plaza, the Temple of the Jaguar, the Temple of the Masks, and the Palace of the Nobles. We'll also climb Temple IV, where we'll get magnificent views of Tikal in the middle of the jungle.
We'll have a break for lunch, and then we'll explore the complex's museum, which houses a large number of pre-Columbian treasures found during the excavations.
In the afternoon, we'll take a flight back to Guatemala City for our last night.
Day 15: Guatemala City
It's time to say our goodbyes. Three hours before your flight, we'll transfer you to La Aurora International Airport to take your flight back home.
