Bariay National Monument Day Trip
Description
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Guardalavaca at the designated time and set out for the Bariay National Monument, a series of monoliths erected in front of the sea to symbolize the arrival of Christopher Columbus on Cuban soil. This was the first place in the New World that the Santa María, Pinta, and Niña ship crew saw!
Once there, we'll discover the figures that commemorate the confluence of the two cultures: a series of neoclassical arches representing Europe and some aboriginal statues that evoke the ancient American continent and that, in turn, are replicas of some nearby pre-Hispanic vestiges. Inside Bariay Park, we can also see a reproduction of indigenous huts.
Afterwards, we'll sample Cuban coffee, coconut water, & seasonal fruit at a local's house. To continue enjoying this idyllic setting that so dazzled the Spaniards in 1492, we'll take a ride in a carriage or on horseback to see the Bariay Bay, the mangrove areas, the coconut trees, and the royal palms that dot this enclave.
Finally, we'll relax on Bariay Beach, a paradisiacal and tropical Atlantic beach where you can take a refreshing bath before setting off on the return journey. We'll leave you at your hotel in Guardalavaca after a total of 8 hours.
