At the indicated time, we'll meet at Praça Luís de Camões in Guarda and start a tour of Portugal's historic villages. Let's delve into the country's past!
First, we'll head to Almeida, a village considered to be one of the best examples of the fortification in Portugal. To see for yourself, we'll take a guided tour of the old town.
Witness to numerous battles due to its strategic geographical position, Almeida has many attractions, including the Gate of St. Francis, the Squadrons' Barracks, the Church of Mercy and the Gate of St. Anthony.
Next up, we'll go to the second stop of the excursion, Castelo Mendo. It's an ancient town with a marked medieval appearance that leaves an impression on all who visit. We'll stroll through its streets and see the old fortress, where the wall and its ruined church stand out.
We'll also explore the new fortress of Castelo Mendo, also known as the Arrabal de San Pedro. Did you know that its structure was badly affected after the earthquake in 1755? We'll learn all about its history!
Finally, we'll visit Castelo Rodrigo. Situated on a hill, this small village has a history strongly marked by the territorial disputes it's experienced over time.
After being dazzled by the beauty of Castelo Rodrigo, we'll return to the starting point after 4 hours.
