Fall in love with the charm of Guanajuato as you wander through cobblestone streets on this guided tour. You'll also visit the famous Mummy Museum, see an old mine and taste typical sweets of this World Heritage City.
Guanajuato Tour + Mummy Museum
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Guanajuato. We'll begin our tour at the famous Museum of the Mummies. Here, we'll check out more than 100 mummies while we talk about their great historical value and tell you why they're such an important tourist attraction.
Afterward, we'll stroll through narrow colonial streets until we reach La Valenciana mine. We'll descend through the corridors of the gallery until we reach the underground, where we'll be able to see the minerals extracted and the tools used by the miners. Did you know that Guanajuato was one of the most productive silver mines in the world in the 18th century? We'll tell you all about it on the tour.
Back on the surface, we'll see the Cervantina roundabout and the Plaza de las Ranas on our way to the church of San Cayetano. We'll get a first-hand look at the Churrigueresque art by admiring the impressive gold-laminated altarpieces it houses. You'll be blown away by the ornate details!
The next stop will be at the Museo de Galeras de la Santa Inquisición, where we'll learn about one of the darkest periods in the history of the city as we see ancient torture instruments that were used to punish heresies.
Have you worked up an appetite? We'll taste some typical sweets before continuing the tour exploring the tunnels and the underground street of Guanajuato.
Then we'll head on to the Pípila monument, from where we'll get a panoramic view of the whole of Guanajuato and learn about the history of this driving force behind Mexican independence.
Finally after 4 to 5 hours of sightseeing, the tour of Guanajuato will come to a close.
Changes to the itinerary
At times the Mummy Museum may be almost full to capacity. If this happens, we would give you the option of substituting this part of the visit with a tour of the Museo ex Convento Dieguino, where you'll also find mummified bodies.
Mummy Museum
During public holidays and peak season, the Mummy Museum gets very busy. As such, it's likely that you'll have to wait in line for entry.
