Charreada Rodeo Tour
Charreada Rodeo Tour
At 10 am, we'll meet at the Campo Charro Jalisco cultural centre in Guadalajara. Here, we'll begin our experience of charrería or charreada, a rodeo-like equestrian sport and art that has been recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Accompanied by authentic charro horsemen, we'll visit the charreria museum to see the traditional costumes, saddles and metalwork characteristic of charreado. We'll learn how this activity arrived in Mexico, how it has changed over time, and where the word "charro" originates from.
After the charreado museum tour, we'll get to see what the nine different events, known as suertes, consist of. These include reining, heeling, steer tailing, and the ominious "pass of death", which involves jumping onto the back of an unbroken horse from another horse. But that's not all! You'll be lucky enough to try riding the horses too - you'll feel like professional charros!
We'll then learn about the relationship of the charros and their horses and we'll have the opportunity to talk to a group of charros about the shows they perform.
After learning all there is to know about this deep-rooted Jalisco tradition, we'll toast with a tequila - cheers!
At 2 pm, we'll conclude the experience back at the starting point.
