If you're in the west of India, you can't miss this free tour of Goa. We'll visit one of the most fascinating cities on the country's western coast and discover the history of this former Portuguese colony.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll begin this free tour in front of the Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, one of the first Catholic places of worship in the region of Goa. This imposing white facade, which contrasts with the surrounding dense, green landscape is one of the main churches in the city.
After admiring its facade, we'll make our way towards the Altinho Hill neighbourhood or hanging Altinho. Considered in the past to be the residential area of the elite colonisers, here, we'll see the Episcopal Palace, the High Court building or the official residence of the prime minister of Goa.
The next stop will be at the Maruti Temple, a stunning spot situated at the top of a hill. This sanctuary, dedicated to the Hindu gods of Hanuman Monkey, is famous for its striking red colour with white details and its imposing views.
We'll continue this free tour of Goa by discovering its notable Portuguese influence, a fact that can be appreciated at the San Sebastian Chapel, located in the old Latino neighbourhood of Fontainhas. At this same spot, we can also enter a small Scandinavian art gallery and visit the Hindu quarter.
Finally, we'll pass by the iconic colourful stairs, The Rainbow Stairs, and after a tour of 2 hours, we'll bring this free tour to an end in the old town.
Groups
On this free tour, groups of more than 6 people are not permitted, even if they are made via different reservations. If you're a larger group, you can book the Goa Private City Tour.
