Gjirokastra Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the centrally located Sheshi Çerçiz Topulli Square to start this guided tour of Gjirokastra.
After an introduction to this beautiful town in southern Albania that was declared a World Heritage Site, we'll walk through the cobblestone streets of the Old Bazaar quarter. Here, we'll find the oldest houses of Gjirokastra and appreciate the features of the traditional architecture of the region.
Next, we'll skirt the citadel of Gjirokastra. Did you know that its castle was a strategic enclave during the Ottoman era? After learning about its history, we'll cross the Zerzebili bridge to access the picturesque neighborhoods of Dunavant and Cfaka. In this district, we'll see the tekkes, buildings of the Islamic brotherhoods that belong to the Bektashi Order.
We'll make the last stop of the tour at the Ali Pasha Bridge. This footbridge is a vestige of the aqueduct that the Ottoman ruler Ali Pashe Tepelena had built in the 19th century to bring water to the castle of Gjirokastra.
Finally, after 3 hours of exploring, we'll conclude the guided tour of Gjirokastra by returning to the initial meeting point.
