Visit the Girona Art Museum

The Girona Art Museum is home to a collection of the most important pieces of art in the province.

Located in the old Episcopal Palace, it's one of the most iconic buildings in the old town, which has also been classified as a Historic-Artistic Complex. Did you know that it's also home to several prison spaces, where where condemned clergymen used to serve prison sentences? There are also gardens that are open at different points of the year, so if you can, don't miss them!

During your visit, you can admire, in chronological order, picturesque works of art and sculptures in different styles and from different centuries. There is also a room dedicated to liturgical art such as pottery and glass.

In its permanent collection, you can enjoy various pieces from the Diocese of Girona, the Provincial Council, and the Generalitat de Cataluña art funds. These include Romanesque and Gothic art collections, with altarpieces such as the altarpiece of Pubol or Cruïlles, and the Renaissance, with altarpieces attributed to Joan de Burguña and those of Pere Mates.

In addition, you will find works of Catalan painting and sculpture by artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Miquel Blay, the Vayreda brothers, Santiago Rusiñol, Prudenci Bertrana, Mela Muter and Celso Lagar.
