Discover Annecy, an unmissable trip for any Alpine holiday. You will explore one of the most beautiful cities in France also known as the “the Venice of the Alps”.
Itinerary
We will meet up in the center of Geneva before leaving on the bus in the direction of Annecy, a medieval city located in the French Alps.
After a journey of less than an hour, we arrive at our destination. Then we are ready to begin our guided walking tour along the city’s alleys and canals which earned it the nickname “the Venice of the Alps”.
During this charming walk, you will learn about the history of Annecy and how the region played an important role in the counter-reformation. The city was chosen by the Catholic Church as a base of operations to try to prevent the ideas of John Calvin spreading from Geneva where they had become popular.
During the 45-minute guided tour, we will see the city’s main monuments, such as Annecy castle and the Palais de l'Isle (Palace of the Island). This fortified house, situated between two canals, has been used since the middle ages as a court, a prison, and an aristocrat’s house, but is now home to a museum.
You will have two hours of free time to explore Annecy at your own leisure and enjoy the enchanted bridges and narrow streets. As you stroll under the flower-filled balconies and past the artisan boutiques or relax with a coffee on the pretty canal side, you will feel the special magic of this fairy-tale city.
We finish the tour returning to the central bus station in Geneva.
