Make the most of your time in Funchal and see majestic whales and dolphins in their natural habitat on this sunset cruise around the coast of Madeira - don't forget to bring your camera!
Whale Watching Sunset Cruise
At 6.30 pm, we'll meet at the Marina do Funchal and, from this port, we'll start this boat trip along the coast of Madeira. We'll sail along the south coast of the island, in the area around Cabo Girão and Câmara de Lobos.
From the boat, we'll admire a magical sunset over the coast of Madeira. We'll also try to spot different whales and dolphins as the sun sets since they come to the coast of the island to feed on crustaceans and small fish during this time of day.
Therefore, sunset is one of the best times to see whales and dolphins in the North Atlantic. The guide on board will explain some interesting facts about the marine fauna of the area, including large mammals such as whales. The Madeira coastline is also home to other species, such as bottlenose and spotted dolphins, sperm whales, fin whales, and pilot whales.
As we sail we will also witness from a distance how the light of the twilight tinges the archipelago of the Desertas Islands in shades of orange and scarlet. Also, if the weather conditions in the Atlantic are favorable, we will make a 30-minute stop in the open sea so that those who wish to do so can snorkel.
Lastly, at 9.30 pm we'll return to the departure dock.
Important Information
Whales and dolphins are commonly found off the coast of Madeira island. However, they are wild animals, and therefore, unpredictable. We cannot guarantee the number of whales nor the species we'll see during the tour.
