Valley of the Nuns Tour + Wooden Basket Ride
We'll pick you up at the indicated time at your hotel and head towards Madeira to visit Curral das Freiras, Valley of Nuns, one of the most beautiful places on the island.
The first stop will be at the picturesque village located on the outskirts of Funchal. This is the parish of Monte, where we'll discover one of the most popular means of transport in Madeira.
Will it be a car or train, perhaps a bicycle or maybe a streetcar? Well, none of the above. In the 19th century, the wealthiest people of Monte used to travel to Funchal in a wicker basket equipped with wheels. Sounds original, right? You'll enjoy a fun ride in the Cestas da Madeira or wooden baskets through the streets of Monte.
After this unique ride, we'll head to Santo Antonio, where we'll see the field where Cristiano Ronaldo used to train when he was a child. We'll drive through landscapes full of eucalyptus, mimosa and chestnut trees until we reach 1,100 metres (3,608 feet) above sea level.
Afterwards, we will enjoy the viewpoint of Eira do Serrado, located at 1200 metres above sea level. If it's a clear day, we'll see the typical landscapes of Funchal from this unforgettable perspective.
Then, we'll continue exploring the Valley of the Nuns, where we'll see the Nun's House, its church and delight the palate with a Madeira liqueur tasting.
In the final stretch of the tour, we'll head to the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint, where we'll admire beautiful panoramic views of Funchal.
Finally, we'll return to your hotel after a total of 3 hours.
