Hiking in East Madeira

When making your reservation, you'll have the choice of three different hiking routes in East Madeira, all including pick up from Funchal:

Levada da Serra do Faial Trail (5 km or 3.1 miles)

Having been picked up from your hotel, we'll set off to Levada da Serra do Faial, where our five kilometre (three mile) hike will begin. We'll follow the trail through the lush vegetation of these spectacular landscapes, admiring the mountains of the Potuguese Atlantic island along the route.

What's more, we'll have the opportunity to hike along the famous levada itself, one of the many historic irrigation channels characteristic of Madeira, which are these days incorporated into a wide network of walking paths. History and nature - what more could you ask for?

Machico Trail (6 km or 3.7 miles)

After picking you up from your hotel, we'll make the journey to Machico, the first capital of Madeira. This historic city will be the starting point of our six kilometre (3.7 mile) walk, which will take us through the Machico Valley and its surrounding forests.

Cornfields, vineyards, mimosas, eucalyptus and levadas are just some of the surprises that await us on our two-hour hike around Machico.

Ribeiro Frio Trail (11 km or 6.8 miles)

At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and embark on our 11 kilometre (6.8 mile) hike along the trails and through the subtropical forests of the Ribeiro Frio Natural Park. During our four-hour guided walk, we'll discover the verdant nature of the island as well as seeing Madeira's emblematic levadas.

As we explore the less-travelled areas of the forest, we'll get to appreciate the sounds of Madeira's native birds, such as the finch, and we'll enjoy the opportunity to admire the landscapes from the different viewpoints along our route.
