Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and venture into the jungle on our 5-day tour package of El Mirador and El Tintal. You'll explore Guatemala's most important pre-Hispanic remains and archaeological sites on this fascinating journey through the past.
El Mirador & El Tintal: 5 Day Tour Package
Day 1: Airport - El Tintal
Welcome to Flores! We'll pick you up at 7:30 am from the Mundo Maya-Flores International Airport and take you to the community of Carmelita. When we get there, we'll meet up with the guides who'll be accompanying us on our 5-day tour. We'll then head to the El Guacute camp to fill up on a delicious lunch.
After lunch, we'll continue on foot along the Zacbé road until we reach El Tintal. In El Tintal we'll tour a Maya archaeological site that once had over 2,000 buildings, including three large pyramids. We'll end our first day with dinner before going to sleep in our tents.
Day 2: El Tintal - El Mirador
We'll wake up to the beautiful natural daylight around us and fuel up for the day with breakfast. Once we've eaten, we'll set off on a hike through the forest along trails and part of the Mayan road. Halfway through our walking route, we'll stop at the El Zompopero picnic area to have lunch before visiting La Muerta. This archaeological site is from the classic period and has two monuments that have been looted on several occasions.
Our next stop will be the magnificent archaeological site of El Mirador. When we get there, we'll watch the sun go down behind the El Tigre Pyramid. We'll round off our day with a delicious dinner.
Day 3: El Mirador
If you'd like, you can wake up early on our third day to watch the sunrise over the ruins. Afterwards, we'll have breakfast and hike to one of the most important pre-Hispanic settlements in the Mayan Biosphere Reserve: El Mirador. We'll be able to see the El Tigre Pyramid, which is 180 feet (55 metres) high, ball games and some constructions that served as astronomical observation points. Did you know that this place was also once an important trading centre for granite, shells, salt, obsidian and jade?
After visiting El Mirador, we'll return to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon, we'll continue exploring other parts of this site. These include the frieze of the Hero Twins and a decorative element of the central acropolis that tells one of the stories from the Sacred Book of the Maya. Last of all, we'll walk to the La Danta Pyramid, which is hidden under dense vegetation at a height of 236 feet (72 metres), and admire a magical sunset.
Day 4: El Mirador - El Tintal
Rise and shine! Once we've had breakfast, we'll say goodbye to El Mirador and head to El Tintal. We'll walk for 7 hours and then take a break when we get to the top of the El Henequén Pyramid, the highest one in the whole complex, to watch the sunset.
Day 5: El Tintal - Airport
We'll set off for the community of Carmelita, where we'll say our goodbyes over a tasty meal. Afterwards, we'll board a minibus that'll drop us off at the airport between 4 and 5 pm.
Accommodation and meals
This 5-day tour package includes 4 nights' full board accommodation at the campsites at El Tintal and El Mirador. Both have tents for two people and shared bathroom facilities.
Meals during the tour will consist of pasta dishes, meat, chicken, rice, sandwiches and fruit.
Important
If your flight arrives on the first day at a time other than 7:30 am, you'll need to spend the night in Flores and start the activity the next day. Our tour schedule is adjusted to the domestic flight from Guatemala City to the Mundo Maya-Flores International Airport, which is the one most people take.
