Pienza, Monteriggioni & Montalcino Day Trip

  • 69 reviews | 505 travellers
Beautiful day! Small group which made it very personalized and the guide was excellent. He explained everything about the towns and gave us recommendations of what to do in each place. We also made some stops to take photos and appreciate the views (the landscape is beautiful). Personally, I didn't eat the lunch/tasting. It's a closed bar, they didn't explain much to me and it takes away time to explore the town. It's better to do it on your own in a nice outdoor place, of which there are many!

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Santa Maria Novella station and leave Florence behind as we drive to discover medieval Tuscany. Let's go explore Pienza, Monteriggioni and Montalcino! Stone walls, castles, and templar legends await us.

Our first stop will be at Monteriggioni, a small fortified village with walls dating back to 1200 AD. Time for a journey back in time! You'll be able to walk along its walls until you reach the Templar Museum, where you'll learn about the exploits of these renowned knights.

After some free time in Monteriggioni, it's time to set off for the Val d'Orcia, a World Heritage Site characterised by endless emerald green hills that turn into golden fields during the summer. Doesn't this landscape look familiar? You have probably seen it in the famous film Gladiator

In this beautiful region, we'll first visit Montalcino, a town well-known for its wines. As a matter of fact, one of them is considered the best wine in Tuscany. You'll have 2.5 hours of free time for a stroll through its streets and typical shops, after which we'll leave for the last stop of the tour.

Welcome to Pienza! You'll have an hour and a half of free time to stroll around this town famous for its historic centre - did you know that it's also part of the World Heritage List? Besides its art and culture, its delicious cheeses will win you over!

After 11 hours of excursion, we'll return to the meeting point in Florence.

Day Trip with Wine Tasting

Do you want an even more complete option? If so, we recommend choosing the option that includes a wine tasting. In this case, in addition to the itinerary described above, we'll do an hour of wine tasting in Montalcino. You'll taste Brunello Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino accompanied by a bruschetta.
