Baptistery & Duomo Museum Tour + Giotto's Bell Tower
At 12 pm, we'll meet at Piazza di San Giovanni to start a guided tour of two iconic places in Florence: the Baptistery of St. John and the Opera del Duomo Museum.
We'll head first to the Baptistery of Florence, an octagonal temple declared a World Heritage Site with a striking façade covered in slabs of white Carrara and green Prato marble cladding. Did you know that it's one of the oldest buildings in the city?
We'll enter the interior through a replica of what Michelangelo called the Gates of Paradise to admire the incredible Byzantine mosaics in the dome of the Baptistery. Here, we'll discuss the origins of this monument, once believed to have been dedicated to the Roman god Mars.
After visiting the Baptistery, we'll go to the Opera del Duomo Museum. Accompanied by our guide, we'll check out the most important pieces housed in this exhibition, from old construction models of the Cathedral to works by Brunelleschi, Donatello, and Michelangelo.
At 1:30 pm, we'll say goodbye at the starting point and give you the tickets to climb Giotto's Bell Tower on your own. Here, you can enjoy one of the best views of Florence from a towering height of 276 feet (84 meters) and take all the photos your heart desires.
