    Free walking tour in Florence Alessandro did a great job explaining the history of Florence from buildings, markets, food, churches, bridges etc..very knowledgeable, friendly and funny guy, definitely great tour, didn’t fell like 2.5 hours tour.

The Accademia Gallery in Florence houses Michelangelo's iconic statue of David along with countless other Renaissance masterpieces—an unmissable stop on any trip to Florence.

History

The Accademia Gallery was founded in 1784 as a teaching facility for the students of the Academy of Fine Arts as well as a gallery. Over time, the institution evolved into a prominent museum, becoming renowned for housing a number of Michaelangelo's masterpieces.

The statue of David

The main attraction in the museum is undoubtedly the aforementioned statue of David—one of the most iconic and beautiful works of art in the world.

The statue is a staggering 5 metres (17 feet) tall, making it about the size of a 2-story building.
