Fez Free Tour
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the main entrance of Lycée Moulay Idriss. For three hours, we'll explore the streets of this Moroccan city to discover the oldest landmarks in the Medina of Fez.
Not far from our meeting point we'll find the famous Bab Bou Jeloud Gate. Also known as 'the Blue Gate', this magnificent monument marks the main entrance to the Medina -the city's old town-. From there we'll walk along the two commercial streets of Fez: Talaa Kebira and Talaa Seghira.
While we admire the colorful stalls in both streets, we'll learn about the history of the city. What's more, during the walking tour we'll visit the Madrasa Bou Inania, one of the most important monuments and buildings in Fez and in all of Morocco, even. After admiring the breathtaking beauty of this school, we'll move on to Nejjarine Square, located in the very heart of the carpenters' quarter.
Our next stop on the free tour will be the Funduq al-Najjariyyin, also known as the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts & Crafts. We'll admire its exterior and continue to the Mausoleum of Mulay Idris II, a shrine dedicated to this former king of Morocco from the early 9th century.
And we'll reach our final destination: the Chouwara tannery. Here, we'll see the infinite number of pits containing natural dyes used to produce and color the leather of lamb, ox, goat, and camel. It'll definitely be a unique and surprising experience!
Lastly, at 4.30 pm, we'll arrive at the square of R'cif Mosque, one of the most peaceful places in Fez.
