Batalha, Nazaré, Alcobaça & Óbidos Tour
Batalha, Alcobaça, Nazaré & Óbidos Tour
Having picked you up from your hotel in Fátima, we'll board a minibus and set off on our tour of four of Portugal's most historic sites.
Our first stop of the day will be Batalha, where we'll enter its emblematic monastery, a jewel of Portuguese Gothic and Manueline architecture. You'll soon understand why the medieval monastery has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site when you see its ancient stained glass windows and look up at the dizzying carved ceilings.
We'll then continue on our excursion to Alcobaça, where we'll visit the 12th century Alcobaça Monastery and church. Did you know these were the first Gothic buildings in Portugal? Before leaving the town, you'll get to try a pastel de nata, or Portuguese custard tart - delicious!
Afterwards, we'll make our way to the coast to visit the town of Nazaré. We'll stop to enter the hilltop Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré and admire its baroque architecture, frescoes portraying Biblical scenes and a spectacular canvas painting of a mysterious miracle. You'll then have free time to get lunch - don't forget Nazaré is famous for its fish!
We'll next go to Óbidos, where we'll walk through its walled historic centre to catch a glimpse of the majestic castle that stands watch over the medieval town. For the finishing touch on our tour, we'll enjoy a tasting of typical local liqueur known as ginjinha.
At the end of the tour, you'll be dropped back off at your hotel in Fátima for 5:30 pm.
