Évora Free Walking Tour
Évora Free Walking Tour
The tour meets at the selected time in the Porta Velha da Lagoa in Evora. From there we'll begin a fascinating free tour, around one of Portugal's most historic cities.
First it's the Água de Prata Aqueduct, a renaissance work, and one of the remaining Roman arches in the city - the Dona Isabel arch dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
Then it's on to the Salvador del Mundo Convent, where your expert guide will tell you all about the Order of Saint Clare, or Poor Clares as they are known. The tour then continues to the Santo Antão church, found in Praça do Giraldo. Did you know that the first church to be erected there belonged to the knights templar?
Then just a few meres away is the Évora Cathedral, one of the largest in the country, and the Inquisition Palace, whose name perhaps reveals its use...
The next stop is the Roman Temple, which still bears 14 of its Corinthian columns and the Nuestra Señora de Gracia church in the Italian renaissance style.
Finally its the Don Manuel Palace, and the public gardens, before putting an end to the tour after two and a half hour.
