On this tour of the Amazigh market in the Haha Region, to the south of Essaouira, we'll delve into the rural Moroccan life. We'll also visit an argan oil cooperative–an unforgettable experience.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Bab Sba to begin making our way to the southeast of Essaouira, where the Amazigh town of Ida Ogourd is found. Ready to soak up a world of smells, textures and colours, which can only be found in this region?
At this weekly market, we'll experience the authenticity of local life while the locals do their shopping and meet up in a friendly and familiar location. We'll see how daily life goes on in the rhythm of deep-rooted traditions, where even riding on donkeys is still quite popular, with a picturesque 'Donkey Parking' surrounding the market.
During the tour, we'll see the stalls full of fresh vegetables, exotic fruit, spices, domestic utensils and interesting services: blacksmiths putting new horseshoes on donkey's hooves, welders repairing kettles, shoemakers replacing soles and barbers under tents. To finish up this experience at the market, we'll enjoy some tea while we admire the vibrant scenery.
Before returning to Essaouira, we'll make a stop at an argan cooperative, where we'll learn about the production of this prized oil, known as the Gold of Morocco. From the delicate extraction process carried out by Amazigh women to the tasting of the exquisite result, this guided tour will be a window into the true uniqueness of the region.
Finally, after 3.5 hours, we'll say goodbye back at the starting point after immersing ourselves in the traditions of Amazigh life.
