Elvas Sunset Tour
Elvas Sunset Tour
We'll meet at Praça da Republica as the sun begins to sink below the horizon to start this tour of Elvas.
As the day's last rays tint the historic buildings of this fortified city of the Alentejo region, we'll start a walk through the impressive walls and bastions. Did you know that Elvas has the largest collection of fortifications in the world? We'll tell you all about them on the tour!
Afterward, we'll walk to the Castle of Elvas, which forms part of the city's fortified complex. We'll access its medieval tower to enjoy beautiful views tinted by the hues of the sunset.
Our next stop will be the Amoreira Aqueduct, built in the 16th century by order of King John III of Portugal to supply water to the city. After admiring this imposing construction we'll head to the military cistern designed a century later, which is connected to the aqueduct through an underground tunnel.
We'll observe its vaulted ceiling and tell you some curiosities about this place. Then, after a total of 2 hours, the tour will end in Praça 25 de Abril.
