Options
When you make your reservation, you can choose one of the following options. All of them include pickup at the indicated time at your hotel in El Peñón, transport in a 4x4 vehicle, a Spanish-speaking guide, and return transfer:
Campo de Piedra Pómez & Dunas Blancas (4 hours)
After leaving El Peñón behind, we'll set off on a 25 km (15 mi) drive along a sand road that will lead us to the area of Dunas Blancas ('White Dunes'). We'll go on a stroll through these mounds, which form part of one of the most captivating landscapes of the Catamarca desert.
We'll continue our 4x4 tour through this Argentinean province at the famous Campo de Piedra Pómez. In this protected natural area, characterized by arid soil, a wide daily temperature range, and very low rainfall, we'll see an amazing landscape full of incredible rock formations.
The accumulation of pumice stone, which has been sculpted by erosion over millennia, creates an almost lunar landscape that will feel surreal!
Campo de Piedra Pómez & Carachi Pampa volcano (4.5 hours)
In this 4x4 route through Catamarca we'll cross a wide area of the puna, the high plateau near the Andes Mountains. In this part of South America, we'll admire its landscapes of basaltic lava flows and stop at the slopes of the Carachi Pampa volcano.
After observing this Andean peak, which rises majestically to an altitude of 3,447 meters (11,309 feet), we'll check out the Carachi Pampa lagoon. In this area, we'll also take a walk along its colorful hills and salt marshes, a surprising landscape.
The route will then continue to Campo de Piedra Pómez, where we'll walk among its unique rock formations and learn about their geological history.
Campo de Piedra Pómez, Carachi Pampa & Antofagasta de la Sierra (7 hours)
If you choose this option, we'll follow a comprehensive route through the northern part of the Catamarca province. First, we'll visit Campo de Piedra Pómez, where we'll take a walk among its amazing geological landscapes.
Then, we'll go to the surroundings of the Carachi Pampa volcano to see its area of basaltic lava flows, its colorful hills, as well as its lagoon.
The route then continues near the Alumbrera volcano, and from there we'll head to the nearby town of Antofagasta de la Sierra. We'll visit the most emblematic points of this Andean town and, before returning to El Peñón, we'll enjoy beautiful views from the viewpoint of Cerro San Juan.
