El Escorial Complete Tour
El Escorial Complete Tour
The tour will start from main door of Monastery, in front of the town hall.
We'll spend 2 hours enjoying a tour inside this imposing building built in the 16th century. Do you know why Philip II chose this location at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama? We'll learn the reasons for his choice as we walk through the basilica, the Battle Room, the pantheon, the palatial rooms and other essential parts of the monument.
Along the way, we'll also visit the famous library of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, whose volumes were collected by Philip II (the first ones were bought by his father, Emperor Charles V), to broaden his humanistic knowledge. Any prince or king of the 16th century had to have a great bibliographical legacy and, without doubt, the Spanish monarch fulfilled this premise to perfection.
After unravelling the mysteries of this monastery in the shape of a grill, the guided tour will end at the entrance.
Please Note
In the event of a mass, the guide will provide explanations about the basilica outside. You will be able to enter and explore the interior once the Eucharist has concluded.
