El Calafate and Punta Walichu Tour
El Calafate and Punta Walichu Tour
After picking you up at your hotel at the selected time, we will head to the amazing Punta Walichu archaeological site by bus.
After driving for about twenty minutes, we arrive at the amazing set of ancient caves adorned with stunning wall paintings that are thousands of years old. Here you will also encounter fantastic recreations of historic Indian settlements.
During the guided tour around Punta Walichu, you will learn all about the Tehuelches, how they organized themselves as a society, and how they lived in such an inhospitable area surrounded by icy glaciers. Here, you will also enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Argentino Lake, the largest lagoon in Argentinian Patagonia.
We return to the centre of El Calafate to take a delightful stroll through the streets of the historic town centre. We will walk along the coastal promenade that runs along the shores of Lake Argentino whilst learning all about the beautiful local flora and fauna that surrounds us.
Afterwards, we will visit the Historical Interpretation Center, where you will discover even more about the history of the town. You will hear how this was the setting for one of Argentinas most tragic historical episodes.
Finally, we will visit a local orchard of fruits and vegetables where you will have the opportunity to buy some freshly harvested produce for yourself. Our guided tour of El Calafate ends with a transfer back at your hotels.
