Discover the wild nature of Patagonia and hike across the magnificent glacier of Perito Moreno when you take this hiking trip.
Hike Details
We'll meet up at the indicated time in the Bajo Las Sombras port, where we'll board a ferry to take us across Lake Rico. Once we reach the other side, we'll begin our trek to the Perito Moreno Glacier. We'll arrive at the opposite coast after around 20 minutes of navigation in front of the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.
When we disembark, we'll meet the mountain guides, who will lead us to a shelter. From there, we'll take a short walk along the shore of the lake for about 1 km. We'll enjoy a talk on glaciology in general and on the Perito Moreno Glacier in particular!
When we reach the glacier's edge, the guides will form groups of a maximum of 20 people each. Then, we'll have a brief safety talk, put on our crampons, and start the hike! During this 1.5-hour tour, we'll appreciate a variety of typical glacier formations such as cracks, drains, seracs, lagoons... At the end of the walk on the ice, we'll return to the refuge by a footbridge that crosses the exuberant Andean Patagonian forest.
Finally, you can take the boat back to the port and then go overland to the footbridges to observe the glacier from the main balcony or from its different paths.
