El Chalten Trip
El Chalten Trip
After collecting you in the morning for your hotel in El Calafate we'll head to El Chalten. Our itinerary begins by following the mythical 'Ruta 40' road which borders Argentino Lake and crosses over Santa Cruz River. As we drive through some of the most spectacular scenery in Patagonia, we'll hear about the eperiences of Darwin and Fitz Roy when they lives in this area.
We'll make a stop at the settlement of La Leona on the banks of the river of the same name. Here, we will stretch our legs and refresh with a coffee and traditional homemade pastry (not included). Later, we will continue our itinerary, following the shorelines of Viedma Lake and enjoying the beautiful landscapes of the Torre and Fitz Roy mountain ranges.
We'll then reach El Chalten, the so-called 'youngest town in Argentina' due to only being officially founded in the 1970s. After visiting the town's Interpretation Centre, we'll continue by minibus up to an Operational Base, and you'll then have free time to set off on a hike at your leisure. You'll be given a map of the different trails around this area of Argentina and a delicious picnic that will include two ham and cheese sandwiches, a piece of fruit, a sweet treat and a bottle of water.
After you have enjoyed your free time in these spectacular surroundings, we'll meet up once more to begin our return journey to Calafate, where you'll be dropped off.
