Imposing castles, grand palaces & mythical mansions... Discover a new side of Scotland by exploring the filming locations of the legendary TV series Outlander on this tour from Edinburgh.
Description
We'll meet at 60 High Street and get ready for a day exploring the filming locations of the famous series Outlander. Leave the city behind and head deep into the Scottish countryside, embracing the scenery that inspired the historical time travel TV show.
The first stop on the tour will be Midhope Castle, where you'll stop to take photos of the site known as "Lallybroch Castle" in the series.
Our next stop will be outside the medieval Doune Castle. Fans might recognize it as "Castle Leoch" from Outlander, the residence of the Mackenzie clan. But this was not the only production made here. This building also appears in Game of Thrones and Monty Python!
Next, we'll head to the Kingdom of Fife, an area of great historical importance and home to Scotland's former monarchs. We'll stop for lunch in Royal Burgh of Culross, the fictional village of Cranesmuir, where Claire is accused of witchcraft. This charming village is the best example of typical Scottish 17th and 18th-century architecture.
With our batteries recharged, we'll continue the tour to the town of Falkland. In Outlander, the town represents the Inverness of the 1940s, as it has more than 28 buildings from this era.
Ready for the last stop? Next, we'll head to Blackness Castle, renamed Fort William in the series. Then, after a full day of Outlander filming locations, we'll return to Edinburgh and drop you off at the Edinburgh bus station.
Temporary Closures
Please note that Midhope Castle will be closed on November 12, 16, 18, 26 and 28 and from December 24, 2024, to March 25, 2025. On these days, we'll admire the exterior of the castle and visit Linlithgow Palace instead.
