San Juan del Río Day Trip
San Juan del Río Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Durango and set off for San Juan del Río. At the halfway point, we'll make a stop at the Peña del Águila dam to admire the breathtaking surroundings of the La Sauceda River.
When we arrive in San Juan del Río, we'll take a tour around some of the churches. These include the San Francisco de Asís Church, which dates back to the 16th century, the sanctuary of Guadalupe, and the San Miguel Arcángel Temple with its iconic baroque altarpiece. We'll also admire the 'Potro de Hierro' mural in honor of Pancho Villa, one of the leaders of the Mexican Revolution, who was born in this area.
Our next stop will be the Community Museum so we can learn about the customs and traditions of San Juan del Río. On our way out, we'll go to the town's outskirts to see La Coyotada, where Pancho Villa was born. In this spot, we'll tell the story of how this Durango local became the governor of Chihuahua.
Afterward, we'll head to the Willow Well hot springs, where you can have lunch and bathe in the warm pools. We'll then go straight to the Santiaguillo Lagoon, a protected wetland where thousands of birds from Alaska and Canada make their nests.
Lastly, we'll visit a Mennonite community to learn about the pacifist population's way of life and its German origins.
We'll then start our return journey to your hotel in Durango, where we should arrive at 8 hours later.
