Kotor Bay Day Trip
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Pile Gate and head toward the Konavle Valley, one of the most scenic regions in the southeastern corner of Croatia.
Shortly afterward, you'll cross the border, entering the neighboring country of Montenegro. You'll make a brief stop to familiarise yourself with the breathtakingly beautiful countryside and photograph the Verige Strait. This strip of water is the narrowest point of the Bay of Kotor and is one of the most captivating sights on the Montenegrin Dalmatian Coast.
The tour will take you around the bay, offering magnificent views of the greenery-covered mountains leading to peaceful azure waters. This inlet of the Adriatic Sea has been called Europe's southernmost fjord, although it's actually a river valley, leftover from the now-vanished Bokelj River that used to flow down from the rocky plateaus above. You'll pass through the historic coastal villages of Risan and Perast, finally arriving at Kotor, the bay's most emblematic town.
Enjoy a guided tour of Kotor, delving deep into the historic center of this ancient walled city, which has been declared a World Heritage Site. The Roman Empire, the Venetian Republic, Austro-Hungary, Yugoslavia... many powerful states have tried to take this area throughout the millennia.
Discover its rich history as you visit its main places of interest, including the 12th-century Cathedral of St. Trifun and the Kampana Tower, part of the Medieval fortifications of Kotor. You'll also have free time to visit the Maritime Museum or the Cat Museum, whose unusual exhibition may surprise you!
Afterward, we'll skirt the bay of Kotor again to reach Perast. Here we'll leave you 2 hours of free time to visit the city and see its stately buildings, a clear example of the splendor enjoyed by this ancient maritime town of the Venetian Republic.
Plus, if you'd like, you can take a boat on your own to Gospa od Škrpjela, or Our Lady of the Rocks. On the artificial islet, built from the remains of sunken ships, you'll visit the church and its museum, dedicated to local history.
Finally, you'll take the boat back to Perast and hop back on the bus for the return journey to Dubrovnik, where we'll drop you off at the Hotel Villa Dard after 9 to 11 hours.
