Oscar Wilde House Ticket

Make your way to 1 Merrion Square in the heart of Dublin, and prepare to embark on a captivating journey through the childhood home of one of Ireland's most celebrated literary figures, Oscar Wilde.

Upon arrival, you’ll watch a 20-minute video presentation, offering a rich overview of Oscar Wilde's life and the extraordinary tales of his remarkable parents. The film sets the stage for your exploration of the house, beginning with the magnificent library of Oscar’s father, Sir William Wilde, located on the ground floor.

Entering the house via the back stairs, you'll discover an exquisite exhibition of artworks by Aubrey Beardsley, famously known for illustrating Wilde’s play, "Salome." As you ascend, you'll reach the consultation room of Sir William Wilde, a renowned eye and ear surgeon. This space, once a medical centre and family home, tells the story of a house filled with both scientific and literary genius.

Moving further, you’ll step into the dining room and the Speranza room. These rooms, boasting stunning views of the Oscar Wilde statue across the street, were once the vibrant setting for Speranza’s salons—weekly gatherings hosted by Wilde’s mother that attracted prominent figures from Ireland, the UK, and the US.

Continuing to the third floor, you’ll find the bedrooms of Wilde’s parents, steeped in history and charm. The tour will conclude at the very top of the house, where Oscar’s childhood nursery is located. Here, an exhibition highlights Wilde’s grand tour of the United States and Canada in 1882, offering a glimpse into the global reach of his fame.

After thoroughly exploring this historic and literary treasure, your visit will come to an end. Slán!
