Book of Kells & Dublin Castle Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Edmund Burke Statue in the heart of Dublin. If you're a history buff, you can't miss out on this!
First of all, we'll head to the home of the famous Celtic manuscript. Once hailed as 'the most precious object in the western world,' the Book of Kells is over 1,200 years old, and perfectly exemplifies medieval illustration.
Our guide will lead us through the “Turning Darkness into Light” exhibition, explaining the book's origins, intricate symbolism, and the meticulous painting techniques used to create this artistic masterpiece.
Next, we'll explore the Old Library at Trinity College, home to the world-renowned Long Room. This vaulted chamber holds 200,000 of the library's oldest books, including the 15th-century “Brian Boru Harp,” named after Ireland’s famous 11th-century king, and an original copy of the Declaration of Irish Independence from the 1916 Easter Rising.
From here, we'll make our way to Dublin’s historic heart: Dublin Castle. Originally built in the 13th century on a former Viking settlement, this castle has served as a fortress, prison, treasury, court of law, and the seat of English power in Ireland for 700 years.
On our guided tour of its exterior, we'll stroll through its well-groomed gardens and explore the Record and Octagonal Towers, as well as the Upper and Lower State Yards. Our guide will bring the castle’s history to life with tales of intrigue and mystery.
We'll continue our adventure at the 18th-century, red-bricked George’s Street Arcade. This vibrant shopping district, once Victorian, now boasts almost 50 trendy stores and restaurants. It's the perfect place to find a special souvenir after your tour!
No visit to Dublin would be complete without paying your respects to the beloved statue of Molly Malone, the mascot of this beautiful Georgian city. And if you're feeling brave, why not sing a few bars of her famous song?
Finally, after a total of 3 hours, we'll bring this tour to an end near the Dublin Caslte. Slán!
