At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the New Church, at the Marketsquare in central Delft. From here, we'll begin this exciting guided tour of the city's historic centre.
We'll start by learning about the history of the New Church. Did you know that it's home to the Royal Vault? We'll hear about the members of the Royal family that were laid to rest here. Just a short walk from this Gothic-style church dating back to the 15th century, we'll find Delft City Hall, a stunning Renaissance-style building. Here, we'll learn about the building's administrative and political history as we admire its impressive façade.
Before leaving Marketsquare, we'll show you some of the best spots to buy some Delftware, the city's famous blue and white pottery. Curious as to why the pottery is mainly blue and white? All will be revealed in due time!
Our next stop will be the birthplace of one of the most renowned artists from the 17th century, Johannes Vermeer. Here, we'll learn more about his most famous works, such as 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'. You'll be fascinated by the artist's life and legacy in Delft.
Next, we'll visit the Boter Brug, or 'Butter Bridge', the longest bridge in the whole city. Can you guess where it gets its name from? We'll learn all about the bridge's history as we stroll past it. Walking along the canals, we'll reach the Old Church, a Gothic-style church dating back to the 11th century. As you admire its façade, you'll notice that its 75-metre-high (246 ft) tower is lopsided... We'll find out why!
Lastly, we'll make our way to the Museum Prinsenhof, hosted in the former monastery of St. Agatha. As we stand outside this historic building, we'll dive deeper into Delft's history.
