Bathurst Island Tour
We'll meet at Cullen Bay Terminal at 7:30 am and board a ferry to Bathurst Island. During the two hour and a half journey, you'll be sure to enjoy the views from the Timor sea.
On arrival, we'll visit the Mission Heritage Gallery, where we'll learn about aboriginal villages in the area and the many traditional hidden corners such as the Tiwi style Catholic church. You'll also see the wooden sculptures of birds from Tiwi mythology.
Afterwards, we'll go to a local village to meet some of the Tiwi Islands' aboriginal community, and discover more about their rituals and dances. You'll also find out more concerning their body art which has important spiritual significance and reveals their social position.
Next, we'll enjoy a traditional tea accompanied by a small lunch. Then we'll continue on visiting different craft shops to see how locals develop traditional sculptures.
The tour will end taking the ferry back to the meeting point, arriving back in Darwin at 6 pm.
