Can you imagine a beautiful lake of pink water? Well, it actually exists and you can discover it for yourself when you take out amazing trip to the Lac Rose. This is one of Senegal's most spectacular natural environments and is famous for having been the last stage of the Dakar Rally up until 2008.
Private Trip Details
After collecting you from your hotel at 9 am, we will head on the bus to the north of Dakar. After traveling for around an hour, we will hit the same route as used in the Paris-Dakar Rally.
We will arrive at Lac Rose, where you will be amazed by the beautiful pink colored water. We then disembark from the bus and climb into a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle to explore the surroundings of Senegal's most stunning nature spot. This saltwater body of water is only separated from the Atlantic ocean by a narrow strip of sand dunes.
During our ATV tour of the area, we will witness the local inhabitants using ancient techniques to extract salt from the lake. You will hear about how people from all across West Africa depend on the salt-panning activity at Lac Rose. You will also find out why the water is a pinkish tone, and how the salt content is 10 times higher than that of the sea.
After finishing the 4x4 tour, we will then take a fun dip in the Pink Lake. You will never forget the amazing experience of floating on the surface of the saltwater without even needing to move.
Lac Rose
Due to the heavy rains of summer 2024, the lake has retained a lot of water and has lost its colour. Salt extraction activities have started up again, along with the trips and activities offered there, but the colour has not returned yet, and we do not know when it will be pink again.
