Dakar Private Tour
At 9 am in the morning, we will collect you from your hotel and begin our guided tour of the essential sights in the beautiful capital city of Senegal.
The first stop is at Independence Square, the beating heart of the historic city center. This huge open space is home to the Presidential Palace, the official residence of the Senegalese government. Close by, you will encounter the colorful Kermel and Sandaga markets, must-see visits for any trip to Dakar. Browsing the chaotic rows of stalls, you will find hundreds of traditional local products, from regional food through the handcrafted artisanry.
The next stop on our route is the Our Lady of Victories Cathedral, the largest Catholic temple in Dakar. From there, we will head to the fishing market of Soumbédioune and enter the Museum of Black Civilizations. Following that, we will visit the African Renaissance Monument, the iconic symbol of Dakar. At almost 100 feet high, this is the tallest statue in all of Africa.
Leaving this icon for Independence behind, we will travel to the popular neighborhood of Medina, where we will discover the Grand Mosque of Dakar, constructed in the 1960s as a result of the resurgence of Islam in the country. Strolling through the narrow streets of this charming district, you will encounter the mystical Tilene market where, inside, shamans sell charms and amulets.
