Ruta del Sol from Cusco to Puno
Description
We'll set off on the Ruta del Sol at the scheduled time from Avenida 28 de Julio. An hour later, we'll be arriving in Andahuaylillas, a beautiful Andean village where we'll visit the San Pedro Apóstol church. Did you know this it's said to be "America's Sistine Chapel"? Inside, we'll admire outstanding works of sacred art, an exquisite combination of Renaissance and Baroque.
From Andahuaylillas, we'll continue on the Ruta del Sol towards the Raqchi archaeological site, where the remains of the ancient temple of the god Wiracocha are still preserved. How was this Andean deity worshipped? What legacy remains of this sacred cult? What happened to the devotees to this god after the arrival of the Spaniards? You'll find out the answers to all these questions on the guided tour around the archaeological site.
The next stop will be in a local restaurant, where we'll go for an hour and fuel up with a buffet lunch. Then we'll head to Abra La Raya: a magnificent mountain pass that's over 4,300 metres high. After enjoying breathtaking views in this amazing place, we'll move on to a fascinating interpretation centre in Pukara.
The Ruta del Sol will end back at the meeting point in Puno, where we'll arrive by 5:30 pm.
