Panpipe Experience in Cusco
Panpipe Experience in Cusco
At your chosen time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and take you to the San Blas neighbourhood in the heart of Cusco. When we get there, we'll be welcomed into the home of a Cusquenian musician who'll discuss San Blas' traditions.
We'll learn about the evolution of Cusco's music in chronological order through different instruments. You'll see the quena or pututu, which predates the Incas, the charango, which is from the colonial period, or the cajón, which has Afro-Peruvian roots. In addition, we'll attend a demonstration so you can hear how each instrument sounds.
Afterwards, we'll meet up in a handicraft workshop so you can make your own panpipe, or zampoña in Spanish. This traditional wind instrument is made from reeds like a flute.
As you follow the musician's instructions, you'll learn how to join the different-sized tubes, which are already tuned, to make your own unique panpipes. You'll even be able to play a simple melody by yourselves!
Once the workshop has come to an end, you'll be able to take your panpipes home as a souvenir. If you like, you can even play your panpipe with the professional musician!
Having spent 2 hours learning about panpipes, we'll take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
