Machu Picchu Hike: 2 Day Inca Trail Itinerary
Day 1 - Inca Trail
On the first day of the tour, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Cusco at 5 am and we'll set off by bus to Ollantaytambo Railway Station to catch the train to Kilometre 104, one of the most famous spots to start hiking the Inca Trail.
We'll begin our trek along the peaks of the Andes mountains. Throughout the hiking route you'll be completely enchanted by the stunning landscapes surrounding you. Reaching the ruins of Chachabamba, we'll start the climb up to Wiñay Wayna, one of the most important archaeological complexes on the Inca Trail.
Surrounded by unparalleled views of historic ruins and beautiful nature, we'll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a delicious picnic lunch. After eating we'll continue on to Inti Punku, also known as The Sun Gate, where you'll catch your first magical glimpse of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, perched majestically upon a mountain top and surrounded by dramatic Andean landscapes. We'll have the opportunity here to take unparalleled photos of Machu Picchu while enjoying a breathtaking sunset.
In the afternoon, we'll take the bus from Machu Picchu in Aguas Calientes, the town located at the base of Machu Picchu, where you'll have dinner and spend the night after a long day of adventure.
Difficulty: moderate.
Hike duration: 6 hours.
Total distance: 12 km (7.5 miles).
Day 2 - Machu Picchu
Our second day will see us up early for breakfast, before catching the bus up to Machu Picchu - a welcome rest for your legs after the Inca Trail hike!
