Machu Picchu 4 Day Trek
Machu Picchu 4 Day Trek
Day 1: Cusco - Soqma - Korimarca
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Cusco or at the airport at 7 am to start this 4 day trek to Machu Picchu via the Inca Quarry.
To begin with, we'll visit the Ñaupa Church, a religious precinct where we'll see impressive carved stones. Afterwards, we'll begin a two-hour ascent to the village of Soqma, where a typical lunch will be waiting for us to recharge our batteries.
After lunch, we'll continue our ascent to the Perolniyoc waterfalls, the most beautiful waterfalls in Cusco, with a drop of 300 metres! We'll then visit the archaeological site of Rayanpata and set up camp near the village of Korimarca, located at more than 3600 meters.
Day 2: Korimarca - Inti Punku - Choquetacarpo
The second day will start with an energizing breakfast to resume the trek through the highest mountains of the Sacred Valley. After a four hour ascent, we'll arrive at the Charkahuaylla pass, located at 4450 meters above sea level, and here we'll have lunch. While we eat, we'll be able to observe a lagoon where huallatas, birds native to the area, live.
After lunch, we'll continue walking to the Buena Negra pass, for unbeatable views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From this point, we'll descend for an hour until we reach Inti Punku, the Sun Gate facing Mount Veronica. Here we'll set up camp for the second night, very close to Choquetacarpo.
Day 3: Choquetacarpo - Cachiccata - Aguas Calientes
We'll start the day in the best possible way, with incredible views of the mountains of the Sacred Valley. After breakfast, we will start a one hour descent to the quarries of Cachiccata, where the Incas extracted porphyry, the mineral used for their constructions. We'll also explore an Inca cemetery with mysterious constructions called chullpas.
We'll have lunch in the village of Cachiccata, and learn about the process of making pachamanca and cuy, typical Peruvian dishes.
The trek will continue through the Inca quarry road, used in pre-Columbian times to move blocks of stone to Ollantaytambo. We'll stroll through the streets of this Inca city observing its ancient dwellings where families still live. In Ollantaytambo we'll take a panoramic train to Aguas Calientes, to spend the night in a hotel.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Cusco
The day will start with breakfast at the hotel and taking a bus to the famous ruins of Machu Picchu. There we'll take a short hike to the heart of the Inca citadel. You'll have around 3 hours of free time to explore the temples, palaces and stone altars. In addition, you could book an optional hiking trip around Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Afterwards, we'll take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and allow time for lunch.
After this break, we'll take the panoramic Vistadome train to enjoy wonderful views back to Ollantaytambo. Once at the station, a bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco, arriving at 7:30 pm.
