Machu Picchu 2 Day Abra Malaga Trip
Machu Picchu 2-Day Trip
Day 1: Cusco – Hydroelectrical Plant – Pueblo de macchu Picchu
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 6 and 6:30 am and drive via minibus to Ollantaytambo while enjoying panoramic views on our way to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
We'll make a quick stop to have breakfast before starting the Abra Malaga route. We'll climb up 4319 meters (14,160 feet) above sea level where we'll bask in the best views Peruvian geography has to offer.
After we've soaked up the amazing panoramas, we'll begin our descent through the jungle to reach Santa Maria, situated at 1250 meters (4101 feet) above sea level. After a short break for a snack to regain some energy, we'll arrive at Santa Teresa, the entryway to the Hydroelectrical Plant, where we'll get off the minibus to have a bite to eat in a local restaurant. With our batteries fully charged, we'll begin a 3-hour hike to the access point of the ruins of Machu Picchu.
Here we'll have dinner and spend the night in a local lodge.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Cusco
The second day will start very early, but it'll be more than worth it. We'll have breakfast at the hotel and at 5 am we'll begin our ascent on foot to the iconic citadel of Machu Picchu. After a 1 hour 30 minute trek, we'll enjoy an unforgettable sunrise. This is the moment to take some fantastic souvenir photos!
When we arrive, we'll take a 2-hour guided tour of the spectacular lost city of the Incas. As we explore the narrow streets and passages, you'll understand why it's considered a masterpiece of architecture and engineering.
Then at 10:30 am, we'll start the descent on foot back to Aguas Calientes. We can also head back down by bus if you prefer.
From Aguas Calientes, we can return by bus or on foot via the Abra Malaga pass to Hidroeléctrica. From there, we'll return by bus to Cusco and drop you off in the surroundings of Plaza de Armas around 9:30 pm.
