Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the meeting point to begin our tour of the Jewish quarter of Cordoba. Are you ready?
To get to know the Jewish population that lived in Cordoba, we have to go back to Roman times since it was during the Augustan era when the walled perimeter of the city was built on the same site that the Jewish quarter occupies today. In this way, the Jewish Quarter was organised and urbanised.
We'll discover that, with the arrival of the Muslims, the Jewish population began to have more power, since the most important buildings were located in their area. Until their definitive expulsion during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, the Jews occupied the area we'll visit.
On our tour of the Jewish Quarter, we'll see the Plaza de Maimonides. We'll learn about the names that this place has had throughout history, such as the Plaza de los Armentas, in honour of the family that lived there, or the Plaza del Arcediano. We'll also see that the Bullfighting Museum is currently located here.
Next, we'll walk through winding, narrow streets, some of which have no exit and which are proof of how cities developed during medieval times. We'll visit the places frequented by the followers of the Star of David, such as the synagogue, the municipal souk and the market.
Finally, after an hour of exploring the Jewish Quarter of Cordoba, we'll return to the starting point.
