Córdoba Churches Tour
Córdoba Churches Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet at your hotel in central Córdoba. From there, we'll walk to San Martín Square and visit the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, one of the main Catholic buildings in this province.
Inside the Cathedral, we'll observe the refined Renaissance decoration dating back to colonial times. We'll also take note of the details on its barrel vault and the impressive high altar, which stands out for its artwork made with embossed silver from Upper Peru. During our tour, we'll also pause in front of the tombs of two important figures, who we'll discuss in detail: the dean Gregorio Funes and the aristocrat Margarita Weild.
Just a few feet from the cathedral, we'll find the Church of Saint Teresa and the Monastery of Saint José de las Carmelitas Descalzas. We'll visit the complex formed by both temples, where we'll learn about some aspects of cloistered life. Our tour will continue to the Church of the Society of Jesus, which is the oldest church in Córdoba. Its historical significance is so great that it's been declared a World Heritage Site.
The last stop on our tour will be the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is also known as Los Capuchinos Church. This neo-Gothic church, built in the first half of the 20th century, is another one of Cordoba's must-see monuments. Inside, you'll see beautiful vaults decorated with stars. We'll also get to see different works of art that tell the story of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.
After 2 hours 30 minutes, it'll be time to finish our tour of Córdoba's churches at Los Capuchinos Church. If you like, you can climb up the bell tower afterwards and admire the excellent panoramic views.
Meeting point
Our walking tour will start from your hotel in the city centre. If you're staying somewhere outside the centre, you'll need to make your own way to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in San Martín Square. The guide will be waiting for you at the main entrance, where Independencia and San Jerónimo Streets intersect.
