Atacama Mining Districts Excursion

Description

Between 8:30 and 9:15 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel and go into the heart of the Atacama region. Did you know that this area is famous for its silver mines? Let's go and discover them!

During the excursion, we'll explore the rich heritage of the Atacama, starting with the Mining Museum of Tierra Amarilla. In this exhibition, very close to the Punta del Cobre mining site, we'll learn about the history of geological research in the region. We'll also see a large collection of minerals from the north of Chile and even several meteorite fragments.

On board the minibus, we'll cross the Quebrada de Puquios while remembering the mining operations that existed here in the past. After our drive, we'll arrive at a former smelting plant, where we'll discover how the silver extracted from the Atacama was worked with.

Afterward, we'll go to Chimberos and Tres Puntas, two of the most famous mining districts in the region. We'll walk around this area to learn more about its history. Then, you'll have an hour of free time to enjoy the sandwich and juice included in the tour.

We'll finish the tour between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm and drop you back at your hotel.
