Rosenborg Castle Guided Tour Itinerary
Meet your English-speaking guide at the archway marking the main entrance to the spectacular Rosenborg Castle, a palace in the heart of the Danish capital's historic centre.
Begin your guided visit of the historic royal residence exploring its beautiful gardens, whose vibrantly coloured tulips and roses brighten the banks of the lake which surrounds the impressive fortress. Construction began on the castle at the start of the 17th century under the orders of Danish King Christian IV. As you stroll throughout the historic site, you'll learn interesting facts about the monarch, who was known for his diverse architectural projects and his conquests both in battle and in love.
Inside Rosenborg Castle you'll visit its palatial chambers. Marvel at the careful decoration of its halls and bedrooms, designed down to the smallest detail according to the fashions of past centuries. You'll see incredible pieces of art that formerly belonged to the royals and nobility, from silver furniture to great tapestries depicting Danish war victories.
You'll also be guided around the Schatzkammer, or Treasure Chamber, where the Danish Crown Jewels and Crown Regalia are exhibited. Sparkling crowns, sceptres, tiaras, brooches and necklaces dating from the 15th to 19th centuries complete this majestic collection, which will undoubtedly leave you in awe. Certain pieces are still worn to this day by the current queen of Denmark, Margrethe II.
Your guided tour of Rosenborg Castle will come to an end in front of the archway where you originally met.
