History of The Little Mermaid of Copenhagen

The sculpture was unveiled in 1913 and is the work of Edvard Eriksen. It is inspired by Andersen's fairy tale of the same name, a fairy tale published in the early 19th century.

The bronze work, which represents the perfect connection between art and Danish culture, depicts a mermaid longing for human life.

How to get there?

There is no cost to visit the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen. The statue is located on the Langelinie promenade, near the port of Copenhagen and about 20 minutes walk from the historic center of the city.

You can get there on foot, by public transport or aboard a tourist bus. It's also possible to see the monument by taking a boat ride along the canals.
