Itata Valley Vineyards & Wineries Tour
Itata Valley Vineyards & Wineries Tour
At 9 am, we'll depart from your hotel in Concepción towards the Itata Valley, one of the main wine-growing areas of central Chile.
We'll first visit a traditional winery in Portezuelo, a beautiful town located north of the confluence of the Ñuble and Itata rivers. As we tour its vineyards, we'll learn about the origins of this type of cultivation, which was imported to Chile by the Jesuits more than 200 years ago.
In these vineyards, we'll see 3 different grape varieties: País, Cinsault, and Moscatel. Each one produces a grape with very distinct nuances, which we'll learn to distinguish in a wine tasting at the winery. As an added bonus during the tour, you'll also have the opportunity to taste chupilca, a popular local drink made from red wine and toasted flour.
The next stop on the tour will be in Chillán. In this picturesque town of the Itata Valley, we'll visit its traditional market, where we'll see a wide range of local handicrafts. You'll have an hour free for lunch in the town, and then we'll continue our tour of the valley by visiting a vineyard in the municipality of Bulnes.
Here we'll find out what kind of vines grow in these fields, and taste the wines produced in their cellar. After this tasting, we'll return to your hotel in Concepción, where we'll arrive at 10 pm.
