On this free tour of Comillas, we'll visit the so-called 'village of the archbishops' - one of the most beautiful towns in Cantabria!
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Fuente de los Tres Caños (Fountain of the Three Spouts) in the Plaza Joaquín del Piélago to start our free tour of Comillas.
To begin our tour, we'll admire the architecture of the New Town Hall, the Ocejo House, La Portilla, Las Cavaducas, the Sobrellano Palace, and Gaudi's Capricho from the streets. Why are there so many sunflowers on its façade? What's the connection between this building and music? We'll find out!
Our tour will then take us to the Pontifical University, and discuss some of the lesser-known details concealed on its façade. We'll continue on through the Modernist Residence, the Cemetery, the Statue of the Marquis of Comillas, the House of the Duke of Almodóvar del Río, the Espolón Cultural Center, Corro San Pedro, the San Cristóbal Church, and the Old Town Hall.
We'll also pass by a building which was once the home of King Afonso XII. In fact, once upon a time, Comillas was the capital of Spain for a day! We'll also discover a curious sculpture that had to be relocated, as it did not fit where it was meant to be.
Along the route, we'll learn all about the link between Comillas and cinema. The link between this beautiful Cantabrian town and the seventh art is more than remarkable. Finally, after a journey of approximately 1.5 hours, we'll conclude this free tour of Comillas in the town centre.
