Coimbra City + University Guided Tour
Description
At the time of your choice, we'll meet next to the iron gate, known as the Porta Férrea, which gives access to the University of Coimbra. Time to discover all the secrets of this prestigious institution!
We'll enter the central courtyard of one of the oldest universities in Europe to begin to get to know its history. Did you know that it's been declared a World Heritage Site?
Inside the complex, we'll visit the Chapel of São Miguel, which stands out for its decorated tiles and enormous baroque organ. We'll also see the beautiful Joanine Library, built by order of King John V of Portugal. Considered one of the most beautiful libraries in Europe, it houses one of the most extensive collections of books from the 16th to 18th centuries.
After learning all about the University of Coimbra, we'll go to admire two of the most important temples of the city, the Old and New Cathedrals. We'll also visit the escadas do Quebra Costas, designed in medieval times to connect the lower part of the city with the castle. In this area we'll also see the Almedina Arch, which was part of the citadel walls. You won't stop taking photos!
After 2.5 hours of sightseeing, we'll end our guided tour of Coimbra by saying goodbye near the meeting point.
