Tomar, Batalha & Alcobaça Day Trip
Tomar, Batalha & Alcobaça Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Coimbra and head to Tomar first, and then visit Batalha and Alcobaça. Let's explore these three must-see locations in Portugal!
After about 50 minutes drive, we'll arrive at the first stop in Tomar, known as the Knights Templar City. There, we'll visit the castle of Tomar and the Convent of Christ, a sanctuary belonging to the Templars that was built in the image and likeness of the rotunda of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
Following this visit, you'll enjoy some free time to sample traditional Portuguese cuisine at local a restaurant at your own leisure.
Then, we'll travel to Batalha to visit the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitoria, a site whose architectural and historical value is remarkable. Did you know that its construction marked the consecration of João I as king of Portugal? Also, this temple was named one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal.
Our last stop will be the Alcobaça Monastery. Considered as the first Gothic building in Portugal, this religious monument has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1989. And it's no wonder! There, we'll tour its interior: the dining room, the kitchen, the dormitory, the chapter house, the cloisters, etc.
After eight hours, we'll go back to your hotel in Coimbra.
