Private Tour of Cluj

Andrea is the guide, an excellent girl full of information, knows a lot about the history of Cluj and Romania. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is a 4-hour standing visit that can be tiresome for many people because there are many moments of sit-in But the experience has been positive

Private Tour of Cluj Itinerary

Begin your English language private tour of the historic centre of Cluj in the emblematic Unirii Square, Romanian for "Union Square", where you'll meet at the equestrian statue of Matthias Corvinus. Do you know why this 15th-century figure was so key in Eastern European history?

In the same square you'll see one of the city's most iconic Gothic monuments: the St Michael's Church, the second largest church in the Transylvania region. As you admire its majestic architecture, your gaze will naturally focus on the immense tower of over 260 feet (80 m) in height. Your guide will reveal the reasons why the tower was built so tall...

Not far from the church, you'll find the elegant Banffy Castle, an 18th century Baroque palace which is nowadays home to the National Art Museum. Inside, you'll have the opportunity to contemplate the permanent collection of little-known Romanian art. Your private tour of Cluj will then continue to Strada Iuliu Maniu, known as "mirror street" - you'll soon see why with your own eyes!

At the end of "mirror street", two of the city's most symbolic landmarks are located: the Orthodox Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral, a fusion of Renaissance and Byzantine styles, and the Neo-baroque National Theatre. After admiring the intricate architectural details of these two buildings, you'll return to Unirii Square to finish your tour with a visit to the Pharmacy Museum. Learn about the extensive history of this industry in Cluj while you discover the different tools, plants and books used in the production of medicines.

After a four-hour tour, we'll say goodbye at the starting point.

Changes to the itinerary

Please note that the National Art Museum, located in Banffy Castle, is open from Wednesday to Sunday, while the Pharmacy Museum is open from Monday to Friday. If one of the two museums is closed on the day of your tour, we'll dedicate more time to discovering the historic centre of Cluj instead.
